Exercise

Dr. Flythe offers wellness programs for those individuals desiring to implement an exercise routine under the direction of a healthcare professional. The client is given a one on one evaluation to determine areas of deficit and an individualized exercise program is created. The client is then monitored and progresses accordingly through an exercise program to reach specific goals laid out during the evaluation.

Core Stabilization Exercises
Core Stabilization is a body conditioning routine that seeks to build flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination without adding muscle bulk. In addition, core stabilization increases circulation and helps to sculpt the body and strengthen the body's "core" or "powerhouse" (torso). People who do core stabilization exercises regularly feel they have better posture, are less prone to injury, and experience better overall health.

Active Isolated Stretching
AIS method of muscle lengthening and fascial release is a type of Athletic Stretching technique that provides effective, dynamic, and facilitated stretching of the major muscle groups, but more importantly, AIS provides functional and physiological restoration of superficial and deep fascial planes.

Active Release Therapy
ART is one of the most effective forms of treatment for repetitive-motion injuries, has helped Olympic athletes achieve fold medals, and allows injured athletes to return quickly to their training protocols. With a success rate of over 90%, Active Release Technique has become one of most sought after soft tissue treatments in the world.

Kinesio Taping
Kinesio taping is a method used to help normalize the function of muscles and other connective tissue. Dr. Flythe is trained in Kinesio taping for both spinal and extremity conditions. He may use taping as a part of your therapy, and also offer tape for your ongoing use at home.

Kinesio taping uses elastic tape rather than the rigid tape traditionally used in sports. The elastic properties of this tape help in many ways:
• Improve contraction of a weakened muscle
• Reduce muscle fatigue and spasm
• Reduce over-stretching and over-contraction of muscles
• Re-educate muscles through sensory feedback
• Lessen edema (swelling) through aiding the lymphatic system
• Minimize post-traumatic or post-surgical bruising through improved circulation
• Help mobilize scar tissue by enhancing glide between tissue layers
• Help correct joint mechanics through aiding muscle function around the joint
• Relieve pain by activating the natural analgesic system in our skin receptors

Kinesio taping is best used as an adjacent to therapy and exercise. It can dramatically speed the rehabilitation process by lessening pain and improving tolerance to exercise and movement. The success of Kinesio taping strongly depends on clinician knowledge. A thorough evaluation is integral to determine which taping techniques are indication. For instance, the clinician must know if the patient needs taping to assist muscle strengthening or to assist muscle relaxation, as the taping will be different. A good physical therapy program goes hand in hand with good taping.

Muscle Release Technique
This technique combines compression, extension, movement, and breath to give therapists a tool to provide relief from pain, treating such conditions as carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic low back pain, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, tennis elbow, knee pain, shin splints, frozen shoulder, hammer toes, piriformis syndrome, tendinitis, trigger finger, and much more.

Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is the three-dimensional application of sustained pressure and movement into the fascial system in order to eliminate fascial restrictions and facilitate the emergence of emotional patterns and belief systems that are no longer relevant or are impeding progress. First, an assessment is made by visually analyzing the human frame, followed by the palpation of the tissue texture of various fascial layers. Upon locating an area of fascial tension, gentle pressure is applied in the direction of the restriction. Myofascial release is an effective therapeutic approach in the relief of cervical pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, neurological dysfunction, restriction of motion, chronic pain, and headaches.

Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy

Based on the discoveries of Drs. Janet Travell and David Simons in which they found the causal relationship between chronic pain and its source, myofascial trigger point therapy is used to relieve muscular pain and dysfunction through applied pressure to trigger points of referred pain and through stretching exercises. These points are defined as localized areas in which the muscle and connective tissue are highly sensitive to pain when compressed. Pressure on these points can send referred pain to other specific parts of the body.
