The Council on Extremity Adjusting recognizes that treatment of the whole body requires synchrony between the nervous system and the mechanical control system of the kinetic chain. Subluxations of any joint have both neurological and mechanical components.
Many patients suffer repetitive subluxations and nerve entrapments because the mechanical component is ignored, leaving root causes undiscovered and untreated. Dr. Flythe’s goal is to easily diagnose and treat these injuries, incorporating both neurological and mechanical treatments.
Mechanoreceptors are embedded in the tissues surrounding joints. When these tissues get stretched by a misalignment of the joint, this activates an inhibition or weakening of the adjacent muscle. Discovery of these weak muscles and correction of the misaligned joint to restore normal strength is specialty of the CCEP doctor.
Full Spine and Extremity Adjusting Dr. Flythe is trained in advanced adjusting techniques that Doctors of Chiropractic study to become a “sniper specific” adjuster. What is a Sports Chiropractor? Sports chiropractors are doctors of chiropractic who have a special interest and post-graduate training in sports related injuries and physical fitness. Their specialized care and treatment helps athletes to excel in reaching their fitness and performance goals. They are experts in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of sports related neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions.
Chiropractic care helps to maintain fitness and health by improving the biomechanics of the spine and skeletal system. The relationship between joint function, especially joints of the spine, and the response of the nervous system to react to environmental stimulus is enhanced by chiropractic adjustments.
Sports training and injuries typically disrupt normal body mechanics and function. When injuries occur, a prompt evaluation and treatment by a CCEP can facilitate a quicker recovery and sooner return to normal activities. Whether you are a member of a team, a professional athlete, participant in individual sport, or a “weekend warrior”, sports chiropractic care can benefit you.
Weekend Warriors, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes are seeking chiropractic care for their injuries and performance care to enhance their agility, strength and speed. Most sports injuries cause sprains, strains or tearing of ligaments and muscles which support the joints (shoulder elbow, hand, wrist, hip, knee ankle, foot). When the joint cannot be supported, it will become dysfunctional causing pain and loss of motion. Chiropractic sports care includes the evaluation of the joint and the associated injured soft tissues. Most tissue tears and joint sprains can be helped with sports chiropractic. Injuries that include fractures and/or severe joint instability will be referred for orthopedic evaluation.
Sports care given by a Chiropractic Sports Physician will involve direct hands on application to the injured area. This may include joint manipulation, specific muscle and tendon manipulation and massage. Many sports related injuries will also require physiotherapeutic modalities which may include ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, infrared light therapy, ice/ heat, and/ or contrast stimulation. Manipulation or adjustments to the injured joints will not only align the bones of the joints, but will also help align the torn fibers that hold the joint together. Exercise rehabilitation will also be utilized to strengthen and stabilize the injured area. This combination of treatment decreases inflammation and pain and treats the injury directly without side-effects and allows for quicker healing time. Overall the chiropractic approach to sports injury care helps prevent chronic problems and allows for more stable, pain free joints and healthier soft tissues.
